The unbelievable stretch of play the New York Islanders have been in has now been hindered slightly by some truly awful news. Captain Anders Lee has sustained a lower-body injury and is out indefinitely.

Lee suffered the injury after becoming entangled with New Jersey Devils forward Pavel Zacha in the first period of Thursday night’s game. The injury looked quite serious as soon as it happened, especially given the fact that Lee exited game and didn’t return.
After a bit of a disappointing 2019-20 season, Lee has bounced back and become one of the Islanders’ best, most consistent, and most reliable forwards. Lee has 12 goals and 19 points on the season, so far, and has been so impactful, especially offensively.
The Islanders will also miss having a presence such as Lee’s in front of the net to tip goals in, something he does better than the vast majority of players in this league.
Lee has been putting up points, yes, but his leadership as the captain is going to be missed. It’s clear how much his teammates respect him and what he brings to the table, on and off the ice.
Lee is out indefinitely, but the hope is that he can make a return well before the season ends. In the meantime, the Islanders will have to remain one of the hottest teams in hockey without their captain.
